During the 2019 Eid al Adha (Festival of Sacrifice), Animals International documented the transport, handling and slaughter of animals exported live from Romania to the Middle East. Evidence gathered shows treatment in violation of European regulations and the standards of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). Filming locations: Kuwait, Qatar, Dubai and Jordan.
Animal protection organisations are calling for infringement proceedings against Romania, which allowed 66,000 sheep to be exported to the Persian Gulf despite the EU Commission urging authorities not to allow the vessel to leave.
